Sports & Recreation
The Wirlyarra punjarlki kapi Miripartijiki - Anyinginyi Sports and Recreation team promotes sports and physical activity as a way of preventing chronic disease.
Services and facilities we provide to residents of the Barkly Region include:
- after-school and school holiday sports programs
- a fully equipped gymnasium with group fitness classes
- social sports events
- annual events including:
- fun runs
- the Rossy Williams cricket shield
- the NAIDOC sports weekend.
The popular after-school sports program runs daily structured games such as basketball, dodgeball, netball, soccer, cricket, T-Ball and Hockey for children. This service provides positive activities for young people in the area that also benefit their physical fitness.
We are proud to be one of the only Aboriginal Medical Services to run a fully functioning gym. We link with local organisations to provide specialised support for community members wishing to utilise the gymnasium and other facilities.
We organise and facilitate social sports such as touch football, cricket, volleyball, netball, soccer, softball and basketball throughout the year.
The Anyinginyi Sports and Recreation team also partners with national sporting bodies to deliver in2cricket, NetSetGo, Aussie Hoops and Mini Roos to the Tennant Creek community.
