Tackling Indigeous Smoking
The Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program is a targeted activity funded by the Australian Government to reduce smoking rates among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, tobacco is the most preventable cause of ill health and early death, and responsible for around one in five deaths each year.
The TIS Program has 37 Grant recipients across Australia with Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation covering the whole Barkly Region of the Northern Territory. Our aim is to educate, raise awareness and prevention around the major health effects caused by smoking and chewing tobacco. As a team we are able to provide support to individuals to break the habit, deliver educational sessions to schools and community groups in an appropriate, holistic approach and provide referral pathways to relevant services to suit the needs of each individual.
If you require further information, support or have any enquiries contact the TIS team today!
